General Order 64-A
Section IX
Joint Poles Or Poles Jointly Used
91.3 Stepping.
Pole steps shall be provided on
all jointly used poles which carry vertical supply or communication attachments
except those jointly used poles carrying circuits operated by one party and on
which the vertical runs or risers are protected throughout. The lowest step shall not be less than 7
feet 6 inches above the ground line and the spacing between steps on the same
side of the pole shall not exceed 36 inches.
To reduce the swinging of conductors it is recommended that pole steps
be placed as nearly as possible parallel with the line, but they shall not be
so located as to permit vertical runs to interfere with their free use. Rule 81.7 applies to poles supporting
communication circuits only.
