Rule 48.4
48.4 | Other Structural Materials
For other structural materials, the safety factor specified in Rule 44 shall be applied as follows:
Tension: The yield strength of the material used shall be divided by the safety factor specified in Rule 44 to determine the maximum allowable working stress. Compression: The ultimate compressive strength of the material used shall be divided by the safety factor specified in Rule 44 to obtain the allowable working stress. The ultimate compressive strength shall be determined by suitable formula for the material used, considering yield strength of the material, modulus of elasticity, slenderness ratio and eccentricity of connection. In no case shall the ultimate compressive stress be greater than the yield strength of the material. Shear: The ultimate shear strength of the material used shall be divided by the safety factor specified in Rule 44 to determine the maximum allowable working stress. |

The For other structural materials, the safety factor specified in Rule 44 shall be applied as follows:
The Tension: The yield strength of the material used shall be divided by the safety factor specified in Rule 44 to determine the maximum allowable working stress. The Compression: The required strength of overhead line structures and subcomponents made with fiber-reinforced polymer shall be derived in conjunction with the safety factors in Rule 44 and other permitted stresses specified in the applicable standard. Rule 48.4
48.4 | Fiber-Reinforced Polymer
The required strength of overhead line structures and subcomponents made with fiber-reinforced polymer shall be derived in conjunction with the safety factors in Rule 44 and other permitted stresses specified in the applicable standard. This requirement applies to tension and bending, compression and bending, and shear. The compressive strength of the material shall be determined by suitable formula for the material or structure, considering the strength of the material, modulus of elasticity, geometry, slenderness ratio and eccentricity of connection. |
