84.8-C4) From Buildings and
Structures: Service drops should be arranged so as not to
hamper or endanger firefighters and workers in performing their duties.
Service
drops
are not required to clear buildings any
specified horizontal distance but
shall be so installed that they do not interfere with the free use of fire escapes, windows, doors and other points at which
entrance or exit might be
expected.
Service
drops are
not required to clear the roofs of buildings on the premises
served any specified vertical
distance. The vertical
clearance above buildings on
premises other than the one . being served shall not be less than 8 feet, except that a reduction
to not less than 2 feet is permitted under either of the following conditions;
a) Over roofs of 3/8 pitch (37 degrees from horizontal) or greater, or
b) Over roofs where the service drop does not overhang the building by more than 6 feet.
