DATE: October 27, 1997 A. INTRODUCTION Construction continued on Segment 2, Angeles National Forest (Milepost (MP) 33 to 57) and Segment 5 (MP 108 to 118). B. SEGMENT 2A CONSTRUCTION PROGRESS This segment within the Angeles Forest Service involves very steep slopes and requires significant time and additional equipment for trenching, stringing, and other pipe laying activities. Segment 2A Environmental Monitor (EM), Stan Harding was on-site. PPSI has 12 craft inspectors, six environmental inspectors, and six Native American monitors inspecting the work of approximately 130 contractor employees. Construction progress from October 20 through 26, 1997 included the following:

C. SEGMENT 3 CONSTRUCTION PROGRESS No construction activity occurred on Segment 3 this week.
D. SEGMENT 4A CONSTRUCTION PROGRESS This segment involves nighttime construction (8:00 p.m. to 5:30 a.m.) in railroad and road right-of-ways through mostly industrial areas from downtown Los Angeles to Compton. Segment 4A EM, Christopher Meyer, has been on-site during construction. PPSI has one craft inspector, one environmental inspector, and one contamination inspector inspecting the work of approximately 10 contractor employees during construction. E. SEGMENT 4B CONSTRUCTION PROGRESS This segment involves construction in railroad and road right-of-ways through mostly industrial areas from Watts Junction to El Segundo Refinery area. Segment 4B EM, Neda Fioozat, has been on-site during construction. PPSI has four craft inspectors, one environmental inspector, one Native American monitor, and one contamination inspector inspecting the work of approximately 20 contractor employees. Construction progress from October 23 through 24, 1997 included the following:
F. SEGMENT 5 CONSTRUCTION PROGRESS This segment involves construction in railroad and road right-of-ways through mostly industrial areas from Compton to the Long Beach Harbor. Segment 5 EM, Pete Messick, has been on-site during construction. PPSI has four craft inspectors, one environmental inspector, one Native American monitor, and one contamination inspector inspecting the work of approximately 25 contractor employees during construction of Segment 5C. Construction is complete on Segments 5A and 5B except where skips between segments remain. Skips will be tied-in when the county contractors are no longer working in the areas. G. VARIANCES The following variance was approved October 20 through 24, 1997.
H. EXTRA WORK SPACE No extra work spaces were approved October 20 through 24, 1997. I. GENERAL PLANS FOR NEXT WEEK Segments 2A, 4A, 4B and 5C to continue. Segment 3 is projected to resume on October 28. Segment 1 is projected to begin in early November. |
