Construction Highlights
01/12/99 (Tuesday)
Segment 1 (Emidio Pump Station to Copco Road): Report for 12 January 1999: Clean up activities continued at the Warbler Skip along Lebec Road today. Grading occurred on Tejon Bench, as did coating. Coating finished their work on the I-5/Tejon bore tie in to the west. The pipe was shaded and fiber optic conduit strung between the skip and the west, I-5 bore site. Continuing work occurred at Grapevine Station. Testing crews began the hydrotest of the section between south California Aqueduct and Grapevine Station, as well as successfully running a sizing plate from the I-5/Tejon bore to Grapevine Station. Non compliance #110013 was issued for violation of A-2, PC1 and C-3, PC3, ROW restrictions, along Grapevine Road next to a historical site. Carrier pipe and dewatering pipe continued to be welded above ground along Highway 166.
Segment 5 (Long Beach to Lynwood): Report for 1-12-99. Crews completed the bore and began pushing pipe at the Edison site near EMP 113.5. In addition, crews removed the bore machine and tracks from the site. Crews working in Tosco backfilled and compacted over the station drain lines, continued electrical work and welded pipe for the Huntway tie-in. The fuel leak outside the Tosco refinery was identified as an out of service 6" fuel line inadvertently pressurized by another refinery resulting in a weld failure. Segment 4B (Lynwood to El Segundo): Crews at Lynwood station spread gravel, continued brick work and removed spoils from the right of way. Meanwhile, 600' of phone line was pulled and crews readied ditch for asphalt at the El Segundo station.
