The following is a brief summary of the environmental monitoring activities that were completed on December 24, 1998. This summary is based on reports directly received from the field and has not been edited. If you have any questions please contact (818) 597-3407. Construction Highlights
12/24/98 (Thursday)Segment 1 (Emidio to Copco Road): Report for 24 December 1998: Backfill continued at the California Aqueduct bore site. Installation of casing continued at stream crossing 9 bore. Excavation of the bore pit on the southeast side of the Tejon Bench/I-5 bore continued.
Segment 2B (Castaic to Sylmar): Report for 12-24-98. General clean up of the right of way occurred today along the segment including Weldon Cyn and Calgrove Ave. In addition, fuel tanks were placed on the street at the Castaic yard while contaminated soil was removed from the segment 2 yard.
Segment 3C (Sylmar to San Fernando): Report for 12-24-98. De-watering of the northern segments and loading of the pipe occurred today at Balboa Blvd. In addition, crews continued to clean, grade and remove debris from the rail road right of way along the entire segment. At Balboa, crews welded the pipe segments after installing a cleaning pig. Segment 3A (San Fernando to Taylor Yard): Electrical crews worked at several vault sites while concrete was poured over the pipe at Victory St to protect the shallow pipe while forms were constructed at Hollywood Way for future concrete.
