Construction Highlights
12/30/98 (Wednesday)Segment 1 (Emidio Pump Station to Copco Road): Report for 30 December 1998: Work continued at both Emidio and Grapevine Pump Stations. Screening of spoil and backfill progressed along the I-5 frontage road. Crews at the aqueduct crossing worked on backfill, as well as pushing water from the north section to a southern section of pipe, for hydro testing. Excavation continued on the south side of the Grapevine Creek bore. A small crew worked on compacting the ditch line for repaving on upper Grapevine Road. Ditch crews continued to dig out an area north of the I-5 bore for the tie in. 24 hour work is in progress for the insert of pipe into the casing at the I-5 bore. Crews on Tejon Bench screened material and trucked it to the south for future backfill, as well as completed excavation. Worked was hampered midday when the crew broke the Tejon Ranch water line. Repairs of the line were done today. The final joint of pipe at the Warbler Skip was placed and welded today. The crew worked late and was somewhat delayed by a minor accident with two asphalt trucks. An additional crew at this location prepared Lebec Road and replaced asphalt on the north end of work. Activity at the Cuddy Creek area consisted of crews preparing for and subsequently filling a section of pipe up to the Warbler Skip with water for the Hydrotest. Three project memos were issued today: the first addressed the exclusion fencing for oak trees near the Warbler Skip, the second was regarding the need for a minimum of twice a day watering for dust control, and the third addressed refueling near the Warbler Skip.
Segment 4B (Lynwood to El Segundo): Report for 12-30-98. At Lynwood station crews continued bricking the face of the block wall, testing the station electrical systems and coating several sections of pipe. Likewise, crews at El Segundo progressed with the station tests and continued general clean up of the station site.
Segment 5 (Lynwood to Wilmington): Report for 12-30-98. Crews potholed the street and the adjacent rail right of way at the Edison pump station site on Alameda St north of Del Amo Blvd. In addition, crews surveyed and marked crossed utilities in preparation for the bore. Near the Tosco refinery, crews backfilled the bore pit and removed shoring from the trench on the west side of Alameda St. Meanwhile, crews continued efforts to complete the tie-in to the Texaco refinery on the east side of Alameda St. Crews working within the Tosco refinery trenched for drain lines, continued with electrical work and began pressure testing a segment of the valve site.
