CPUC Environmental Monitoring Activities

SFPP Carson to Norwalk Project

The following is a brief summary of the environmental monitoring activities that were completed between 1:00 on 5/04/99 and 1:00 on 5/05/99. This summary is based on reports directly received from the field and has not been edited. If you have any questions please contact (818) 597-3407. This report is intended to serve as a communication document and as an instrument for quality control.


Construction Highlights

Spread 1

City of Long Beach

Spread 1 work in the City of Long Beach has been completed.

City of Paramount

No Spread 1 work occurred in the City of Paramount during the shift.

City of Bellflower

No work occurred in the City of Bellflower during the shift.

City of Cerritos

The San Gabriel River boring crew welded on the final section of 30-inch casing pipe and pushed it through to the receiving pit in the City of Bellflower. The crew completed the bore at approximately 2:00 PM. The crew has not started cleaning out the casing pipe yet. The crew will start working in the City of Bellflower after notifications are made.

City of Artesia

No work occurred in the City of Artesia during the shift.

City of Norwalk

The backfilling crew poured both zero-sack and one-sack slurry north of Alondra Blvd. on Norwalk Blvd., ending the shift past Lowemont Street. The paving crew laid asphalt south of Alondra Blvd.

Spread 2

Los Angeles County

The crew at the Compton Creek Bridge welded the section for the bridge in one piece and then lowered it onto the supports. The welds still need to be coated and the last of the u-bolts tightened. The pipelaying and welding crews moved to the south side of the bridge to finish laying the section leading up to the bridge. The paving crew laid asphalt over the bore pit and trench on Laurel Park Drive. The railroad cross-arm was knocked down by a non-project related truck. The railroad was contacted and the cross-arm was repaired.

City of Long Beach

The crew at the Los Angeles River welded the valve on the west side of the river and continued with the fittings bringing the carrier pipe to grade. The crew started pulling the trench boxes from the bore pit to prepare for backfilling.

City of Paramount

No work occurred in the City of Paramount during the shift.

Watson Station

City of Carson

The crew at the Watson Station continued to work on the electrical connections and the vapor recovery tanks. The crews also welded the connections on the north side of the station.

Norwalk Station

City of Norwalk

The pipelaying and welding crews completed laying the subterranean pipe in the Norwalk Station. The small crew potholed and backfilled inside the station. The mainline pipelaying and welding has been completed on Spread 1.
