CPUC Environmental Monitoring Activities

SFPP Carson to Norwalk Project

The following is a brief summary of the environmental monitoring activities that were completed between 1:00 on 5/17/99 and 1:00 on 5/18/99. This summary is based on reports directly received from the field and has not been edited. If you have any questions please contact (818) 597-3407. This report is intended to serve as a communication document and as an instrument for quality control.


Construction Highlights

Spread 1

City of Long Beach

Spread 1 work in the City of Long Beach has been completed.

City of Paramount

No Spread 1 work occurred in the City of Paramount during the shift.

City of Bellflower

No work occurred in the City of Bellflower during the shift.

City of Cerritos

Most of the MTA right-of-way was restored to original grade. The valve site is still open and will be backfilled after all testing and cleaning is completed. The applicant was informed that fugitive dust was leaving the right-of-way east of the San Gabriel River.

City of Artesia

No work occurred in the City of Artesia during the shift.

City of Norwalk

No work occurred in the City of Norwalk during the shift.

Spread 2

Los Angeles County

A small crew worked on clean-up at Compton Creek.

City of Long Beach

Only a small crew worked in DeForest Park during the shift.

City of Paramount

The final paving crew started curb-to-curb asphalt work on Madison Street.

Watson Station

City of Carson

The crew at the Watson Station prepared the section was dewatering. The water discharge permit was ammended and the applicant received authorization to discharge the hydrostatic test water in one day. The contractor started dewatering after 10:00 AM and continued until 4:30 PM. The water was tested for chlorine prior to discharge.

Norwalk Station

City of Norwalk

The crew at the Norwalk Station welded the test section on the small section of 12-inch inside the station. The line was filled and tested during the shift. The crew sent a pig through the 16-inch line to push the hydrostatic test water out.
