Welcome to the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) website for the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) review of proposed construction of the Eldorado to Ivanpah Transmission Line Upgrade Project (Ivanpah). An application for this project was submitted to the CPUC on May 28, 2009 (Application A.09-05-027).This site provides access to public documents and information relevant to the CEQA review process.

Background

Southern California Edison (SCE) has filed an application with the CPUC to construct Ivanpah. The CPUC is the CEQA lead agency and the BLM is the NEPA lead agency.

Ivanpah, as proposed by SCE, includes transmission upgrades to interconnect renewable energy projects, including the DPT1 Solar Project, in the Mojave Desert area spanning the California border.

The Ivanpah Project's major components include the following:
  • Construction a new Ivanpah substation in San Bernardino County, California;
  • Removal of 36 miles of 115 kV lines and replacement with 220 kV lines for the Eldorado portion of the existing line;
  • Replacement of an existing transformer at the El Dorado station in Clark County, Nevada;
  • Installation of associated telecommunication infrastructure; and
  • Upgrades to ensure system protection and reliability.
