Strength Requirements for All Classes of Lines

47.2      Use of Guys and Braces

The longitudinal strength requirements for poles, towers and other supporting structures shall be met either by the structure alone or with the aid of guys or braces.  Deflection shall be limited by guys or braces where such structures alone, although providing the strength and safety factors required, would deflect sufficiently under the prescribed loading to reduce clearances below the requires values.
