Change List for this Rule

Original Version

Rule 54.4-D8

54.4-D8)    At Top of Pole:

Clearance Between a Single Conductor and Center Line of Pole: A single conductor of a circuit may be attached directly to the top of a pole or to a crossarm at the top of a pole at a distance less than as specified in Table 1, Case 8. Where a transformer(s) or similar apparatus is connected to a circuit so arranged, a vertical clearance of not less than 30 inches shall be maintained between its un-energized metal parts and the primary conductor directly above.

Where this construction is used, no conductors of other circuits on the pole shall be less than 6 feet below the pole-top conductor.

EXCEPTION:    In rural districts this clearance may be reduced to 4 feet when the primary circuit supplies a 0-750 volt circuit below.

For pole-top triangular and vertical construction without the use of wood crossarms see Rule 54.11.
