Dear Mr. Shauers:

This letter will approve Variance Request No. 10 from Kenneth J. Lord, dated July 29, 1997 to Ms. Vida Strong regarding the return of the pipeline alignment to the original route (as addressed in the Final EIS/SEIR) between MP 42.7 to 42.71 to avoid a steep slope. This approval is subject to the following measures:

• All applicable mitigation measures for the project shall be implemented at the subject locations.
• All project construction drawings, strip maps, etc., shall be modified to reflect the realignment.
• Implementation of this variance in accordance with the provisions noted above shall be verified on a random basis by a CPUC/ANF Environmental Monitor.
