Welcome to the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) web site for the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) review of Sierra Pacific Power Company’s proposed Hobart Substation Rebuild Project. An application for this project was submitted to the CPUC on December 19, 2003. This site provides access to public documents and information relevant to the CEQA review. Background The Proposed Project would expand, upgrade, and replace the existing substation with newer and more reliable electrical equipment and provide standard three-phase electrical service to an existing customer in the Hobart Mills area. The project does not propose to extend services from the substation to any new users, but instead will enable the substation to deliver the amount of load required by an existing customer for existing and future uses conditionally approved by Nevada County. In accordance with Public Utilities Code Section 1001, SPPCo. is seeking a Certificate of Public Convenience and Necessity (CPCN) from the CPUC. SPPCo.’s Application
and The Application and PEA may be viewed here. Environmental Review The CPUC has prepared an Initial Study and Mitigated Negative Declaration (IS/MND) for the proposed project and determined that it would not have any significant effects on the environment. The NOI may be viewed here: Hobart Final NOI The public review and comment period will extend from July 6, 2004 through August 6, 2004. Written comments on the Mitigated Negative Declaration must be received via e-mail or by U.S. postal mail no later than 5 P.M. August 6, 2004.
