Appendix B
Mechanical And Loading Data For Conductors.
This appendix gives, in the form of tables, mechanical data for copper wire, steel wire and cable most commonly used in electrical supply lines; also wind and ice loads which will be encountered under conditions of maximum loading as outlined in Section V, Rule 52.
The curves of Appendix C are based on the values given in the tables below, together with the following data:
Modulus of elasticity
Copper |
16,800,000 pounds per square inch |
Steel Solid |
29,000,000 pounds per square inch |
Steel, stranded |
21,000,000 pounds per square inch |
Coefficient of linear expansion
Copper |
0.96 X 10-5 per degree F. |
Steel |
0.67 X 10-5 per degree F. |
