II. POPULATION AND HOUSING

1. The proposed project is not a land use that would directly increase population within the community. In the past two years, the cities of Mountain View and Cupertino have experienced a dramatic economic expansion with a corresponding increase in electric demand of approximately 8 MW per year. Based on historical data, the current area economic outlook, and known customer development plans, PG&E forecasts that electrical demand for these areas will grow at an average rate of 10 MW per year for the next three years (PG&E, 1998).

   The proposed project is designed to accommodate projected growth in the cities of Mountain View and Cupertino by providing additional electrical power to a system where the existing electrical capacity will not meet projected needs in the near future.

   No new public or private projects are anticipated to be directly initiated as a result of the proposed facilities in either the City of Cupertino or Santa Clara County. Therefore, no impact would occur because the project would not result in existing population projections being exceeded or induce substantial growth in an area.

2. See II.a, above. Operation of the project facilities would be unmanned. The construction phase of the project would require approximately 70 workers at its peak. These construction workers would come from the surrounding San Francisco Bay Area and would not increase the demand for housing or induce substantial growth in the area either directly or indirectly. No impact would occur.

3. No housing units would be displaced by the proposed project. No impact would occur.
