Williams Communications, Inc. Fiber Optic Cable System Installation Project

Riverside to San Diego Route

Environmental Review Documents

CEQA Compliance

On October 21, 1999, the CPUC approved the Williams original application for ten routes and issued a Certificate of Public Convenience and Necessity. In February 2000, Williams filed a Petition to Modify their application. This petition added a new route from Riverside to San Diego.

Pursuant to CEQA where subsequent changes are proposed in a project which will require important revisions of a previous Negative Declaration, the CPUC has prepared a Subsequent Initial Study/Draft Mitigated Negative Declaration (IS/DMND) on the new route. An IS/DMND describes a project and its potential impacts on the environment, and preliminarily concludes that any significant impacts that may result from the project can be either eliminated, or reduced to a level that is not significant, by the adoption and implementation of specified mitigation measures.

The CPUC has prepared a Subsequent Initial Study/Draft Mitigated Negative Declaration (IS/DMND) for the proposed project.
